Why I’m Running Before Sunrise Now

Hey, it’s Mark!

So, picture this:

I’m driving for Uber, wrapping up my morning around 9:30 or 10:00 AM.

I glance at the dashboard, and it says 83°... feels like 90°.

And I still have to go for my daily run. 😩

Let’s just say the excitement was not bouncing high.

Now, you might know that I’ve run at least one mile every single day since August 29, 2017.

That’s over 2,800 consecutive days. No excuses. No breaks. Rain, illness, chaos—you name it.

But this Houston heat?

It doesn’t just drain your energy. It messes with your motivation.

That’s when it hit me like a blast of humidity to the face:

What if I ran before I drove for Uber instead of after?

So here’s what I did—I swapped my 30-minute hallway reading walk for a 30-minute light jog around my double cul-de-sac before sunrise.

It’s quiet. No traffic. Still warm, but not sun-blazing hot.

And best of all?

When I’m done driving, my run is already DONE.

I don’t have to dread it. I don’t have to think about it. I’ve already checked the box and built momentum before most people have even had coffee.

The Takeaway?

👉 Sometimes, productivity isn’t about doing more.
👉 It’s about doing the right thing at the right time.
👉 It’s about knowing your body, your energy, and your limits—and working with them, not against them.

That’s clarity in action. 💥

So let me ask you:

Is there something in your day that’s better done first, not later?

Maybe it’s exercise.

Maybe it’s deep work.

Maybe it’s that hard conversation or that creative project.

You don’t always have to change the what.

Sometimes you just need to shift the when.

Hit reply and tell me:
What’s your “morning move” this summer going to be?
I’d love to hear what you’re shifting.

Mark
