[FIRST NAME GOES HERE], here are 3 routines to supercharge your productivity

Hey, Reader!

Most people let their day happen to them. They wake up reactive, scroll through chaos, and end up wondering where the time went.

You want more than that. You want days that feel intentional, energized, and productive.

The good news? It doesn’t require a massive overhaul. Three simple routines can shift everything: bedtime, morning, and planning.

I’ve used these for years to stay consistent with my daily mile run streak (since 2017), keep my coaching clients on track, and protect my own energy at 60. Let’s break them down so you can start today.

1. Bedtime Routine – Protect Tomorrow’s Energy

You can’t be productive if you’re exhausted. A strong bedtime routine sets up better sleep, which means sharper focus the next day.

Key steps:

  • No electronics 90 minutes before bed. This includes TV, phone, tablet—anything with a screen. Blue light and mental stimulation keep your brain wired.
  • Create a calm environment: dark room, cool temperature (around 67°F works best), and no work or stressful conversations in the last hour.
  • Wind down intentionally: read a physical book or journal. Your body learns this signals “sleep is coming.”
  • Something I've been experimenting with: reading/journaling with a red light in my bedroom while listening to a sleep playlist I found on Spotify.

Result? You fall asleep faster, wake up refreshed, and avoid the mid-afternoon crash that kills productivity.

Action today: Turn off screens 90 minutes before your normal bedtime tonight. Notice how it feels tomorrow morning.

2. Morning Routine – Own the First Hour

The way you start the day determines how much of it you own. A rushed, reactive morning sets a scattered tone. A calm, intentional one gives you momentum.

Key steps:

  • No phone for the first 30–60 minutes. No email, no social media, no news. Protect your mind from other people’s agendas.
  • Light, movement, and intention: Get out of bed immediately, make your bed (small win), turn on lights, hydrate, and do something physical (walk, stretch, or light exercise).
  • Read or reflect: Spend a few minutes reading something uplifting or writing one goal/intention for the day.
  • Crazy thing I do: a 30-minute reading/prayer walk up and down my hallway (I read a physical book).

This sequence wakes your body and mind without overwhelm. You enter the day in control, not reacting.

Action today: Tomorrow morning, delay the phone for 30 minutes and replace it with light movement and one intention. See how the day feels.

3. Planning Routine – Tell Your Time Where to Go

Productivity isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what matters. The planning routine ensures your time serves your goals, not random demands.

Key steps:

  • Do it the night before or first thing in the morning (your preference).
  • Block your day in 2–3 hour chunks (not minute-by-minute). List 2–3 high-priority tasks per block (but please don't focus on the number, instead focus on what you need to do to move the needle toward your goals).
  • Include personal development, breaks, and rest intentionally. What gets scheduled gets done.

This simple act prevents reactive drift. You end the day knowing you moved the needle, even if not everything got done.

Action today: Tonight, block tomorrow in 2–3 hour chunks with 2–3 priorities per block. See how much more intentional your day feels.

Why These Three Routines Work

They’re simple, flexible, and compound over time. Bedtime protects energy. Morning sets the tone. Planning directs the day. Together, they create a rhythm that reduces stress and amplifies results.

You don’t need 47 new habits. You need these three done consistently.

Hey, Reader! I’ve been experimenting with a little tweak lately that’s quietly changing how I get things done. It’s 25 minutes of pure focus on one task—no timer break afterward, no forced 5-minute stretch, just move straight to the next 25-minute block when I’m ready. Before you think “that’s just Pomodoro without the breaks,” let me be clear: it’s not. Pomodoro’s built-in pause is great for some people, but I’ve found that stopping every 25 minutes actually interrupts my flow more than it...

Hey, Reader! I've been in the productivity game a long time. People assume I must live on caffeine, checklists, and zero downtime. The truth? I've never felt overwhelmed or burned out. And the biggest reason isn't some fancy app or 19-step morning routine. It's health and wellness. A couple of years ago, I had this realization that hit me like a ton of bricks: If you're not taking care of yourself emotionally, spiritually, and physically, it's really difficult to be productive. I used to...

Hey, Reader! If scrolling feels more like a chore than a connection these days, I get it. For years I tried to crack every platform—TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Threads. Coaches, courses, trends, hashtags. Engagement? Mostly zero. I was exhausted from performing for an audience that wasn’t really there. Then I made a simple decision: stop chasing. Post what God puts on my heart, serve the people who need it, and let the right ones find me. In that freedom, I discovered something...
