I Turn 60 Today—Here Are 5 Lessons Life Taught Me

🎉 Today, I turn 60 years old.

If you’re reading this on June 21st, 2025—happy birthday to me!

Over the past 60 years, I’ve made mistakes, taken risks, bounced through hard seasons, and learned a lot. And today, I want to share five of the biggest life lessons that have shaped how I show up every single day.

💥 Here they are:

1️⃣ Take care of yourself.
Since August 29, 2017, I’ve run at least a mile every day. Not to show off—but to show up for myself. Movement is medicine.

2️⃣ Establish strong boundaries.
My boundaries are legendary. Picture: 25-foot walls, rebar, snipers, and a moat filled with (possibly poisonous) alligators. Don’t just protect your time—defend it.

3️⃣ Hang around people who are where you want to be.
The fastest way to grow is to get in the room with people who’ve already made the leap.

4️⃣ Growth lives on the other side of discomfort.
As Steve Harvey says, “Get comfortable being uncomfortable.” If you’re always cozy, you’re not growing.

5️⃣ Don’t take life so seriously.
You get one shot at this thing called life—don’t spend it stressed out, burnt out, or buried in busyness. Have fun.

🎂 As I hit the big 6-0, I’m not slowing down—I’m doubling down on clarity.

Your guide to conquering chaos and crushing goals. There’s something magical about starting something new. A friend of mine recently decided to finally pursue their passion for writing. They’ve always wanted to be a writer, and now, with space in their life, they’ve committed. At first, they were going to write and publish five days a week—Monday through Friday. Now, I love the enthusiasm. I love seeing people fired up about their passion. But I also love sustainability. So I asked them a...

Hey, it's Mark. Yesterday was a punch in the gut. Twice. First, the battery in our only car died. That set us back nearly $280. Then the brakes started grinding. Not good. The original estimate? $1,413 to replace all four rotors and brake pads.(Apparently, they don’t grind rotors anymore—they only replace them.) At the time, we had $741 to our name.😨 That was a scary moment. So we went with the bare minimum: just the front brakes for $424, which should keep us driving for another couple of...
